I developed an intense hatred of Oddish in the first game. They would constantly spring out of the grass, poison my Pokemon, then flee before I could even exact my revenge. Little jerks.
In the original Pokemon game Blue, my favourite Pokemon is Caterpie, because having it turn into a butterfree and it having bug, flying, poison, normal and psychic attacks was very beneficial in nearly every gym battle I attempted.
I have many, but notable favorites are Gardevoir, Medicham, Alakazam, Gliscor, Hydreigon, Mamoswine, Cloyster, and Chowizowd. And if we are going for looks, most of the Eevee forms (I am ashamed to admit that Vaporeon in the Poke’mon amie thing made a 25 year old man squee. Flareon too).
Mine is Rotom. Cool typing (darn you Gen 5 for changing it!), Neat deisgn, connection to Platinum, the first game I actually owned, sweet powers, and an awesome story involving a characters Star of Darkness. He’s just pretty darn cool.

Abra can use Teleport, Growlithe can use Roar. While those certainly are ways to “escape”, it has nothing to do with the enemy fleeing mechanic implented in Gen2.

I imagine every pokemon would have the move explosion in their move set and would use it on their first turn of the battle…. it’d be the worst thing to ever happen! \(O_O\)

Not sure if you are aware of this, but the rss feed has been acting up all week. It keeps swapping between last weeks state and this weeks state. When it reverts to last weeks state it shows ‘Industry Standard’ as a new update(but at the end of the feed), then when it updates to the correct state it shows ‘Hit and Run’ as new again(removing ‘Industry Standard’ from the feed). I sent an email earlier this week to inform you of the feed issue, but I am unsure if you have seen it.
Understandable. Just was unsure if the email I sent reached your inbox. Another thing you might want to look into fixing is updating the copyright date in the site footer. It still says copyright 2011-2014.

There are no mechanics in which pokemon would flee, except for the safari zone, and you don’t have your own pokemon there.
It’s fine to misremember things, though. They still would poison the shit out of your pokemon, anyway.

Some wild pokemon can flee(abra being a prime example) though it is not common. Any Wild Dog/Wandering Pokemon will flee battles when they can.
