This sounds interesting, specially with the pokemon cards. Moving 1 space at a time sounds strange though.
Hopefully this is a small arc, and we got a couple more comics coming.
Attack statuses like Paralyze, sleep, bind, constrict, ect. will stop the opponent from moving but moves like quick attack, whirlwind, swift, ect. will move you more than one space and Pay day will give you more money in the bank and Dig will free you from jail, ect. ect.
They need a paper-and-dice gamer in the house. Then you get way more fun dice to work with than boring ol’ six-siders. Imagine rolling a d20 to decide how far you go on your turn.
As a theoretical-board-gamer, I am fascinated to see where this goes! I disagree with Carlosfer2201, this could be a long arc, or something that is continued every so often1!
Hahaha, of course that kid would have skylander figures.. oii.
This is an interesting thing actually, the quirk of game theory that if the rules are being made up by you it’s kind of less fun.. because restrictions are what make something a challenge
This won’t be communism. Whoever goes first will have an unfair advantage and be able to exploit everyone who follows. It’s about as purely capitalistic as you can get.
Sooo you get a fixed amount of money and 7 pokemon cards at the start of the game and when nobody has money anymore you play 4 person pokemon battle? or 2 times 2 tournament with first loser vs 2. loser and 3 loser vs winnar? something like that would work
How would this make sense? This is GAMERCAT we’re talkin about. I men, D&D is fun and all, but how is that relative to gamin?
Button Mash
I don’t know, man. VG cats did one on D&D. that turned out pretty good. it ended up having a reoccurring joke even. besides, what does monopoly have to do with gaming?
snowstreak
You mean the Rat on a Stick? Yeah not 100% sure but munchkin’s might have snagged that from them as well
Oh the nostalgia! I remember when Skylanders were 1 of the most POPULAR gaming franchises IN ALL OF TIME AND SPACE! But then Toys For Bob decided to add both free in-game and paid-for real life loot boxes in Skylanders Imaginators, and soon after that, they went bankrupt. Still, the games are still alot of fun, even if you’re like me and only own the 3ds versions, and doesn’t own Skylanders Imaginators because you can’t find a physical copy of the game for the Nintendo Switch.

How would pokemon cards work? Like the attack is the amount of spaces you move? Lol.
Laethnes
That’s what I’m trying to figure out… unsuccessfully :D.

Wow, so detailed. But the move one space thing, wouldn’t that basically mean you can’t pass jail? Haha that would be hilarious.
Anony-mouse
It would probably work like Monopoly Gamer (Specifically Mario or Mario Kart), where you have a second dice for items.
Falos
Meh, Monopoly has a million different cover editions. Might as well make a Calvinball one.
johnson

Katy Eleanor

CALVI AND HOBBES!!!!!??

Using your own custom rules is a severely underrated way to play a board game!
cyber95
In contrast, house rules are much of the reason Monopoly ends up the slog it is.
all that money in free parking that could have been just gone from the game

My family and I have played monopoly with a d20 before (instead of the regular dice). It IS a lot more fun.

Strangely I’d like to actually play with these rules. Mebbe you get to moves faster with some pokemon cards
Meowmeow
This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Rod and Todd play the board game by moving one space at a time. “It’s much less fun this way” lol.
snowstreak
Knowing how this comic goes and what tends to happen with things like this this is going to be interesting and amuzing
